AIAG-VDA Action Priority System
How FailModeLens implements the AIAG-VDA Action Priority methodology with automatic AP calculation and RPN transition support.
Action Priority Calculation
FailModeLens calculates Action Priority automatically from your Severity, Occurrence, and Detection ratings using the official AIAG-VDA lookup table. The result is one of three priority levels:
**High (H)**: Action required. Typically triggered when severity is 9-10 (safety/regulatory), or when the combination of S/O/D indicates unacceptable risk. Displayed in red.
**Medium (M)**: Action should be taken. The team should assign recommended actions to reduce risk. Displayed in yellow.
**Low (L)**: Action could be taken. At the team’s discretion based on resource availability and risk tolerance. Displayed in green.
When selecting S/O/D ratings, inline criteria descriptions appear showing the full AIAG-VDA rating scale (e.g., Severity 9: ‘Failure may involve noncompliance with regulations — failure to provide a warning of hazard’). This eliminates the need to reference a separate rating scale document during FMEA sessions.
RPN Transition Support
For organizations transitioning from RPN to AP, FailModeLens supports both methodologies. Each FMEA can be set to AP mode (AIAG-VDA default) or RPN mode (traditional S×O×D calculation).
A conversion view shows what the AP rating would be alongside the RPN for each failure chain. This helps teams understand how their risk prioritization changes under the new methodology and validate their transition.
Bulk conversion: switch an entire FMEA from RPN to AP mode with a before/after comparison report showing which items change priority and which remain the same.
